Which Olympic events are topping the social media stakes?

So today’s the day... The London Olympics have finally arrived.

So today’s the day… The London Olympics have finally arrived. Here at the Xcite Digital office we’re counting down the hours to the Opening Ceremony and the discovery of the ‘mystery VIP’ due to carry the world famous torch into the Olympic Stadium. The Olympic buzz is infectious and there has been much talk across all social media companies and platforms in the run up to the games. There’s no doubt that London 2012 will be the most digital and social games ever, but what exactly is everyone talking about? American company Networked Insights produced the creative graphic design below to illustrate what the folks over there are chatting about and from where they’re doing it. Surprisingly most of the social media activity involving the games is coming from the New York area with the most talked about sport being basketball… (?!) So that’s what the Yanks are talking about, but what about you; what sports are you looking forward to? We’ve got a lot of favourites here in the office but we are also proud to have an previous Water Polo Team GB member in our Xcite Digital team! Our creative lead, Charlotte Hanson, has played in many Water Polo tournaments for both the junior and senior Great Britain team. This includes two Junior European Championships across 4 years and, if thats wasn’t enough, Charlotte was also part of the 2006 Commonwealth Games squad! Needless to say Charlotte has many friends in Team GB some of whom will be representing us in Water Polo at this years Olympics. Whatever their sport, we wish every member of Team GB all the luck in the world for the forthcoming games; let’s bring home the gold! SM-Olympics2012
